The Routes

The A66 technically starts near the east coast on the eastern side of Middlesbrough, just at the Grangetown roundabout. I have decided to make our start point 5 miles east in Redcar, at the Stray Cafe (Coast Rd, Redcar TS10 3AX), which overlooks the North Sea.

You will get a warm welcome from the manager, Caroline, who is delighted her cafe is the official starting point for Route A66 uk.

The end point of the A66 is at the junction with the A596 in Workington, but I have chosen to finish at the Asda store which is only a mile and a half further on, on the other side of the river Derwent, and almost overlooks the Irish Sea. There is a cafe, fuel, etc. https://storelocator.asda.com/north-west/workington/dunmail-park. I have set Google maps to avoid motorways, so the route can be used by any vehicle.
